Legacy’s Light Recordings
Anthroposophy NYC’s “Legacy’s Light” series is an intergenerational exploration of anthroposophy’s journey in this country--with a particular focus on New York City. Our events will feature brief presentations and live interviews by younger anthroposophists. They will explore the spiritual awakening of the 1960s-70s as it unfolded in the next decades in anthroposophical initiatives. Through live conversations with panels of individuals who founded and experienced them and their early growing pains, we hope to shed light on spiritual science’s present and on the future we are called upon to create.

The Branch, The Building, The Aura

Anthroposophy’s roots in the United States and New York City go back to 1910 when the first study group formed among some singers based at Carnegie Hall. Today, a century since Rudolf Steiner’s passing, a new generation of seekers is finding anthroposophy and striving to create its own unique relationship to spiritual science.

Enter Georg Kühlewind
Georg Kühlewind (born György Székely, March 6, 1924 – January 15, 2006) was a Hungarian philosopher, writer, lecturer and meditation teacher. For many who experienced Georg’s meditation retreats and/or his lectures during his frequent US visits, his influence was powerful and remains enduring. His early interests in careers in music and psychology were stymied by the onslaught of World War II. Georg survived imprisonment at Buchenwald and then Aschersleben (an unheated aircraft factory), pursuing post-war a professional career as a physical chemist while continuing spiritual search primarily out of anthroposophy.

The Actors' Ensemble
The Actors’ Ensemble was founded in the early 1980’s by actors Ted Pugh, Fern Sloan and Charles Harper. It is a theater company which holds the art of acting, the actor’s process and the creation of new work as its central themes.

The School of Spiritual Science
The First Class Lessons were given by Rudolf Steiner as a fundamental meditative pathway to personal spiritual transformation and an indispensable preparation for life after death. This Sunday, the Legacy series will speak of the meaning and purpose of the First Class of the School of Spiritual Science, its history in the New York City branch and some indications of the possible evolution of its form in the future.
